The Ontario PC Party claimed: “The Wynne Liberals continue to cut municipalities out of the decision making process when it comes to the development of wind farms and solar plants.”
Fact: In fact, we introduced more measures to include community engagement in the siting process.
Even when a contract is offered, the process is not over. Project developers must obtain all required licenses and approvals, including additional community engagement requirements, and provide further opportunities for communities to express any concerns that they may have about the proposed project.
The Ontario PC Party claimed: “…the Climate Change Action Plan revealed the Liberal Government’s secret plan to eliminate natural gas as a source for home heating.”
Fact: Natural gas will continue to play a critical role in the energy mix in Ontario and to be clear, we are not banning natural gas or forcing anyone off of it.
Fact: In fact, we are helping to expand natural gas access into northern and rural communities with a $230 million investment, allowing communities that previously lacked the necessary infrastructure the opportunity to switch to a cheaper, cleaner fuel source that will help residential and industrial consumers manage their energy bills.
The Ontario PC Party claimed: “…Ontarians have seen little benefit from the $1.9 billion smart meter program.”
Fact: Ontario’s environmental commissioner has said that smart meters are a progressive policy and a shrewd investment that will benefit both individual consumers and society as a whole.
The Ontario PC Party claimed: “We are now seeing that the Liberals’ promised green energy jobs were nothing but an empty promise.”
Fact: Clean energy initiatives have generated over 42,000 jobs at more than 30 solar and wind manufacturers across the province.

The Ontario PC Party claimed: “…the Liberal government could have saved an additional $1.5 billion on the Samsung deal by exercising an exit clause.”
Fact: Premier Wynne renegotiated the contract with Samsung, saving Ontarians $3.7 B.
The Ontario PC Party Claimed: “…Ontarians have no way of actually knowing how efficient Hydro One has become because everything has been cloaked in secrecy.”
Fact: Actually, broadening the ownership of Hydro One is already showing results with $60 million in cost savings in their first year of new management, customer billing accuracy surging to an all-time high of over 99%, the introduction of e-billing, ending the practice of security deposits for new customers, voluntarily banning winter disconnections, and investing $228M in capital investments to improve our grid…to name a few.

The Ontario PC Party Claimed: “Kathleen Wynne’s Hydro One fire sale has put Ontario back into the coal business”
Fact: Eliminating coal generation from Ontario’s supply mix remains the single largest climate change initiative ever undertaken in North America. Hydro One’s acquisition of Avista, which is a company located outside of Ontario, now gives us the chance to spread the values of a pollution-free electricity grid – we see this as an opportunity.
Ontario PC Party claimed: “Ontario has the most unreliable electricity grid in the country, and it’s only getting worse.”
Fact: There’s a big difference between the blackouts and brownouts caused by a faulty grid under the Conservatives and those caused by extreme weather today. The electricity system we inherited was a mess. Families and businesses remember the smog days and blackouts we all had to suffer through. The system needed to be rebuilt – and we’ve done that, investing over $50 B in infrastructure to make it clean and reliable. While we can’t control the weather, we can control the strength and reliability of our electricity system.
